After more than 11 years of working in Pediatric Orthopedics, we realized several common problems in regards to casting. One, is the itching, which can be controlled with talc or baby powder in a dry cast, and cool water in a waterproof cast. The other major problem is the odor that develops within the cast.

Although many attempts have been made by different companies to resolve these problems, there has been little success. Some attempts involved sticking compressed air down the cast, odor eaters, and special vacuums to remove the moisture out of casts. Aside from being extremely tedious, all of these options can not only damage the integrity of the cast but also injure the patient's skin.

We were determined to help patients be more comfortable while wearing their cast. We spent two years in the development of a safe and convenient method to remove the odor, without jeopardizing the patient's health or the cast.

Orthocast Fragrance is a solid applicant in which you rub a small amount onto the outer aspect of the cast, effectively covering up the odor. Each bar lasts an average of 5 weeks. There are currently more than 12 fragrances to choose from for children, teens and adults. We also have an adult line of deodorant fragrances (Orthosport). Orthocast fragrance can be used on both regular and waterproof casts without any damage to the cast cutter. The product does not make any contact with patients skin, nor does it ruin the padding of the cast, unlike other methods.
